Live Review – MCW Pro Wrestling “Autumn Armageddon” (Hollywood) 10/8/22

MCW Pro Wrestling made its latest stop on the 2022 Autumn Armageddon Tour at the Hollywood Firehouse in Hollywood, Maryland on October 8, 2022. Here’s what happened:

MATCH #1
BLACK WALLSTREET vs. SIGMA MALES vs. JACOBS FAMILY

For much of this contest, it seemed to be a four on two handicap match rather than a triple threat tag team match. Before the bell rang, The Sigma Males and The Jacobs Family attacked Drolix and Chuck Lennox.

Once order was restored, Drolix spent several minutes in the corner of the The Jacobs Family as they made quick tags and cut off the ring. Soon, The Sigma Males took over. They moved Drolix over to their corner, while they took their turn making quick tags and cutting off the ring.

Finally, Drolix was able to make the hot tag when The Sigma Males and Jacobs Family began arguing amongst themselves. Lennox rushed in and cleared the Sigma Males from the ring first. With Fuerte and LDJ laid out on the floor, Drolix returned to assist with the Black Wallstreet cutter/flapjack combo finisher on Jacobs for the win.

WINNERS: BLACK WALLSTREET

MATCH #2
MYLES HAWKINS vs. ALEX DIVINE

At the last stop on the Autumn Armageddon Tour, Alex Divine came close, but could not get the victory against King McBride, thanks, in part, to interference from Andy Vineberg. Could the exciting youngster get over the hump against The Trade’s Myles Hawkins? Hawkins seemed to think not. He told the crowd in Hollywood that, “They sent a kid to face the wrestling god.”

Divine started the match with a flurry of high-speed offense, but got tripped up by Portia on the outside. When Divine went outside to confront Portia, Hawkins blindsided him. From there, Hawkins was in control until Divine hit a cross body from the apron followed by a springboard spear. At that point, Portia interfered again and Hawkins hit an over the shoulder facebuster for the near fall.

Later, Divine mounted another rally when he reversed an attempted back suplex from the top rope into a cross body then hit a reverse Frankensteiner for the near fall. Sensing the urgency, Portia reached in and put Hawkins’ foot on the ropes to stop the pin count at two, but was thrown out moments later by referee Mike Kehner for her continued interference. As everyone, including Kehner, watched Portia leave ringside, Hawkins snuck up and hit Divine with low blow followed by a spinning heel kick.

WINNER: MYLES HAWKINS

MATCH #3
MANDY LEON (c) vs. GIA SCOTT
MCW WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP

Mandy Leon won the MCW Pro Wrestling Women’s Championship at “Ladies Night” in a fatal four way match against Leila Gray, Melina, and Gia Scott. On the first stop of the Autumn Armageddon tour, Leon defeated Kelsey Raegan to retain the title. On this night in Hollywood, Leon faced a rematch against the former four time MCW Women’s Champion, Gia Scott.

Scott was in the driver’s seat early after she snapped Leon’s neck on the ropes, then tried to choke her out with those ropes until the referee forced a break. Angered, Scott threw Leon outside the ring and almost scored a countout victory following a hard DDT on the concrete. Leon made it back into the ring at the count of nine, but Scott slid right back out and pulled Leon outside the ring by her feet. This time, though, Leon reversed Scott with a kick to the head and a cannonball from the apron onto the floor.

Back inside the ring, Leon would miss a top rope sunset flip, but recovered in time to hit a running Kill Switch that nearly ended the match. The two competitors exchanged ineffective shoulder tackles off the ropes until Scott caught Leon in a bear hug and threw her backwards onto her face. Seemingly with the match in hand, Scott approached the fallen Leon only to be surprised as Leon grabbed a reverse chin lock submission and wrenched it tighter and tighter until Scott conceded.

WINNER: MANDY LEON

MATCH #4
MIAMI MIKE WALKER vs. ANGEL ALVARADO (w/TITO SANTANA)

This match featured an opportunity for me to check another item off of my wrestling bucket list. Angel Alvarado entered the arena accompanied by WWE legend, Tito Santana. As a kid who grew up on Golden Era WWF, this ranks right up there with meeting Ricky Steamboat at an MCW event three years ago. I think I actually uttered the words, “Holy shit!” as Santana reached out and shook my hand on his way to the ring.

In the ring, Miami Mike, and Angel Alvarado put on a great match as the show headed to intermission. Miami Mike would take control off of interference from Hellfire McGuire, but got tripped up, literally, by his own shoelace. The fans chanted, “Tie your shoe!” as Mike tried to rectify the situation. Walker ultimately threw the shoe into the crowd, which spawned chants of “One Shoe Mike! One Shoe Mike!”

Walker still managed to maintain control for the better part of this match. Toward the end, however, Alvarado managed to evade a charging Miami Mike and lifted Walker into a fireman’s carry. However, Hellfire McGuire interfered again. Alvarado left the ring to deal with McGuire, but was ambushed by Walker as he returned. When McGuire attempted to interfere once more, Tito Santana ran over and clocked the manager in the face. At the same time, Alvarado connected with a Tito Santana-style flying forearm, then climbed to the top for a beautiful Swanton Bomb.

WINNER: ANGEL ALVARADO

MATCH #5
TEAM SPRIGGS vs. THRASH SOCIETY

On his way down to Southern Maryland, Thrash Society member J.B. Anderson posted a TikTok promo where he talked about all the things he and Boom Hayden had in store for Team Spriggs members, Khaz Lee and Myron Malone. The Thrash Society made good on Anderson’s promises, but paid a hefty price in the process.

Early on, Team Spriggs double teamed Boom Hayden and, at one point, Malone held a wristlock and walked over to Lee who was on the apron jawing with fans. Malone handed Hayden’s arm to Lee who never turned around. Lee grabbed the arm and snapped it across the ropes repeatedly as Lee looked on.

Moments later, though, Hayden reversed the wristlock and, with Lee still facing away from the ring, walked over and handed Malone’s twisted arm to Lee. Without looking, Lee grabbed Malone’s arm, thinking it was Hayden’s and snapped it across the rope at least a dozen times. It wasn’t until Anderson and Hayden went out to the ringside floor to get a better view that Lee realized what he had done and released Malone’s arm.

After several more minutes of futility by Lee and Malone, the rest of Team Spriggs ran out from the back to help. Cassius Carter and Adonis Cole teamed up to distract the referee as Team Spriggs jumped J.B. Anderson and turned their attention to Hayden. Hayden was choked with the ropes and triple teamed in one corner, until he mustered all of his strength to dive for the hot tag with Team Spriggs holding both of his feet.

Anderson cleared the ring and used Malone’s momentum to knock Carter off the apron. Anderson hit a bulldog and Hayden threw Malone outside the ring. With Lee outnumbered for once, Hayden and Anderson nailed him with a spinning forearm/ clothesline combo finisher and got the victory. Immediately after the bell, however, Tim Spriggs and the rest of his team jumped Hayden and left him decimated in the ring. Clearly, this feud is far from over.

WINNERS: THRASH SOCIETY

MATCH #6
KING McBRIDE vs. KEKOA

MCW mainstays King McBride and Kekoa can always be counted on to give the fans a great match and they did not disappoint on this night. As usual, McBride employed mind games early as he refused to get in, and stay in, the ring with Kekoa. McBride got caught in the ring for a brief moment, but evaded a Kekoa spear in the corner which sent Kekoa into the pole and out to the floor. McBride followed and dominated The Hawaiian Warrior for several minutes on the floor.

The one sided affair continued inside the ring. Kekoa tried to fight back, but had little strength to mount any offense. Eventually, though, Kekoa got a boot up as McBride charged him in the corner. McBride recoiled and charged again. This time, Kekoa leapt up and over, as McBride missed the shoulder tackle and collided with the post. McBride climbed to the top rope and Kekoa followed with a superplex that left both men down.

As the two combatants rose to their feet, they exchanged hard chops to the chest. Kekoa landed several in a row followed by a flap jack. The fans went crazy as Kekoa tuned up the band and connected on a superkick. After a near fall, The Jacobs Family sister, Mary Elizabeth, sidled to the ringside area with her eyes on Kekoa. As Kekoa looked on confused, Mcbride snuck up with a low blow, followed by a Death Valley Driver for the victory. After the match, Kekoa challenged McBride to a No Holds Barred Joppa Street Fight on October 15.

WINNER: KING McBRIDE

MATCH #7
DEMARCUS KANE (c) vs. MOSES
RAGE TV CHAMPIONSHIP

Moses was clearly hyped up for this return match with MCW Rage TV Champion Demarcus Kane. In their last match, Kane used nefarious tactics to get the win and retain the title. Moses seemed determined not to get robbed this time as he attacked Kane before the bell sounded. Kane tried to powder, but Moses hit the apron for his signature cannonball onto Kane at ringside.

Moses hit a splash and a flapjack inside the ring, but got distracted when Gia Scott jumped onto the apron. Kane attacked Moses from behind and used a rear chin lock in the center of the ring to slow things down. Kane converted the hold into a rear naked choke that nearly put Moses to sleep.

The Rage TV Champ seemed to be cruising to an easy victory after a nasty spinebuster, a Michinoku Driver, and a beautiful Swanton bomb, but gave Moses the opportunity he needed when he began arguing with the referee over his allegedly slow count of the pinfall attempts. Moses snuck up behind Kane and landed a Samoan Drop.

Frustrated, Kane responded with another splash and a cannonball. Gia Scott tried to hand Kane a steel chair, but Moses took it away, Moses took a huge swing with the chair but missed. Kane rolled outside the ring to regroup and confer with Gia Scott.

Apparently, Scott and Kane agreed they were done for the night. Kane grabbed the TV Title belt and they headed for the locker room. General Manager Phil Stamper interrupted their escape and announced a rematch in Joppa on October 15. If Kane gets disqualified or counted out this time, the title will change hands.

WINNER BY COUNTOUT: MOSES

MATCH #8
KAUN, JOE KEYS & DANTE CABALLERO vs. THE TRADE
SIX MAN HOLLYWOOD STREET FIGHT

This match started as a regular rules match. However, Robert Locke of The Trade, was trying to get away from this Hollywood crowd as quickly as possible. Locke held his hands over his ears as the fans chanted “ROBBY!” (referencing his time in the popular tag team Robby & Bobby), then hit Joe Keys with one of the tag titles belts to force a quick disqualification.

General Manager Phil Stamper appeared once again to spoil The Trade’s fun. Stamper announced that the match would be restarted immediately as a no disqualification, Hollywood street fight. Within seconds, the action spilled all over the arena. They were fighting at ringside. They were fighting on the ramp. They were fighting at, around, and on the merchandise table.

As the action returned to the ring, Robert Locke hit a low blow on Joe Keys and looked to hit a Con-Chair-To with two trash can lids. Dante Caballero saved Keys and dropped Locke on one of the lids with a DDT. Brandon Scott broke up the Caballero pin attempt with a strike to the back from a mop handle. Scott used the handle to choke Dante before Locke took over using a chain for the same effect. Keys tried to use a steel chair to make the save, but Scott kicked it into Keys’ face.

The Trade triple teamed Dante with trash can lid shots as Robert Locke took to the microphone and called for Eric Martin to grab the door. As Martin set the wooden object up in one corner, Kaun ran in and hit an air raid slam to Locke, then reversed an Eric Martin power bomb attempt into a back body drop onto a steel chair.

The Trade’s remaining member, Myles Hawkins, rushed in from the dressing room to assist his teammates, but Alex Divine followed soon after to even the score. Divine quickly cleared Hawkins from the ring, leapt to the top rope and hit an incredible back flip onto Hawkins, Scott, and Martin on the floor.

With Robert Locke alone and outnumbered in the ring, Caballero, Kaun and Keys set up a table on top of two steel chairs in the center. grabbed a pumpkin from ringside and smashed it onto Robert Locke’s head, then hit a triple power bomb through the table. Caballero covered Locke for the one-two-three to send the folks home happy.

WINNERS: KAUN, JOE KEYS & DANTE CABALLERO
