Live Review – C3W “Halloween in the Square” 10/29/22

C3W Wrestling held a show within St. Mary’s County, Maryland’s “Halloween in the Square” in Lexington Park, Maryland on October 29, 2022. Here’s what happened:

MATCH #1
KURT KINGSTON (c) vs. RYLO GUTHRIE
SPW UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP

The opening match of the day featured the SPW United States Champion, Kurt Kingston, facing C3W newcomer, Rylo Guthrie. Kingston made the mistake of trying to bodyslam the big man early in the match, but could not get Guthrie in the air. Guthrie would go to work on Kingston’s injured back with a sidewalk slam and a tightly-gripped bear hug.

Kington finally turned the tide with a Japanese arm drag to Guthrie from the second rope which left both men on the mat exhaisted. Kingston made it to his feet before Guthrie and, in the blink of an eye, hit a running knee, axe kick and a curb stomp to retain the SPW United States Championship.

WINNER: KURT KINGSTON

MATCH #2
ETHAN CROSS vs. GPOSTAL

On his way to the ring, Jessup’s Ethan Cross had his eyes focused firmly on GPostal at the commentary table. Cross waved at GPostal to get in the ring and challenged him to a match. GPostal initially had no interest, but fan support made him change his mind. Of course, as GPostal was getting into the ring, Cross attacked from behind.

GPostal fought back after Cross missed a splash in one corner. GPostal hit a dropkick and a fall-away slam, but could only garner a two count when Cross got one leg on the ropes. Cross tried to drop GPostal with a cross body off the ropes, but GPostal caught him mid-air, slammed him forward, and took home the victory.

WINNER: GPOSTAL

MATCH #3
ERNESTO DA NIGHT OWL vs. SNATCH vs. J.J. VALENTINE
vs. WILL KNOX vs. GRIZZLY O
FATAL FIVE WAY MATCH

This match was announced as a fatal four way, but after all four of the announced competitors made it to the ring, Grizzly O surprised everyone in attendance when he ran in from the back and crashed the affair to make it a fatal five way. The action spilled outside almost immediately with Grizzly O, Snatch and Valentine battling at ringside.

Once the competitors made it back into the ring, Grizzly O hit a sling blade, but JJ Valentine broke up the pinfall attempt. Snatch ran over and tried to hit a side Russian Leg Sweep to Ernesto Da Night Owl, but Ernesto reversed into a superkick. As Snatch recoiled into one corner, Valentine nailed Ernesto with a lariat, picked up Snatch for a urunage, piled the two men on top of one another and pinned them both at the same time.

WINNER: J.J. VALENTINE

MATCH #4
THE STOMPERS vs. GRIM & POSTMAN VAM

The Stompers withstood an early onslaught from Vam Williams and managed to spend the first few minutes of the match cutting off the ring and making quick tags to prevent Postman Vam from making the tag. However, a missed tope suicida gave Postman the opportunity to go on offense before tagging in Mr. Grim.

The powerful Mr. Grim treated both of The Stompers like lightweights. He dropped one of them neck first across the guardrail and then press slammed him back into the ring. Once inside, Grim simply threw the man from pillar to post like it was nothing. Later, Grim used his partner as a weapon. He propelled Vam Williams with a whip into the corner for a splash, then lifted the Postman up over his head and used him for a buckle bomb.

Amazingly, The Stompers did not just pack it in and go home at this point. A reversal into a DDT on Mr. Grim gave The Stompers new life. After the hot tag, The Stompers hit a dropkick, a blockbuster, and a swanton bomb. Only last-second save by Vam Williams prevented The Stompers from getting the one, two three.

Grim recovered and managed to back body drop one of The Stompers out of the ring as Vam Williams climbed to the top rope for an outstanding blockbuster/power bomb combo finisher. Somehow, that did not secure the victory, but a pounce by Grim to one, and a superkick followed by a splash to the other, finally ended the night for The Stompers.

WINNERS: GRIM & POSTMAN VAM

MATCH #5
MOOSE vs. MOUNT IVAN ALI (c)
C3W SUPER HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Hometown hero Moose returned to Southern Maryland to take on Mount Ivan Ali for the C3W Super Heavyweight Championship in the main event on this day. However, as someone who lives in the local community, it should be pointed out that Moose spent the week leading up to this event by giving back. He met with local high school students, including my stepson and the Great Mills High School football team. My stepson said he was inspired by Moose’s words. So, thank you, Moose!

Early on in this match, these two huge men jockeyed for position to gain any advantage they could get against an opponent whose strength matched their own. Ali would capitalize when his manager distracted Moose. Moose returned fire with some hard punches and threw Ali outside the ring. At ringside, Moose flung the Super Heavyweight Champion into the guardrail, then into the post. Once again, however, Ali’s manager distracted Moose and allowed Ali to sneak up and ram Moose’s head into the ring post.

Back inside the ring, Ali used a chin lock that looked like a choke, followed by a real, blatant choke to maintain control on Moose. Moose fired up the crowd with a reversal of an Ali suplex and a kip up to start a rally. Ali, still on his feet, challenged Moose to take him down. Three Moose shoulder blocks failed to do so, but the fourth took Ali off his feet. There was no pinfall attempt, however, as Ali’s manager got involved again and distracted the referee. When Moose went over to get the referee re-focused, Ali snuck up with a low blow and rolled Moose up for the easy pin.

WINNER: MOUNT IVAN ALI
