Coastal Championship Wrestling “Alive” Episode 111 debuted Tuesday on YouTube. This flashback episode’s matches were pre-taped way back on August 13, 2005 at Night 2 of CCW Summer Heat from the Jim Beech Center in Ocoee, Florida. Here is what happened:
MATCH #1
ANTONIO BANKS vs. JERRY LYNN
The first match we look back upon in this episode involves a man who would soon become known as MVP in WWE taking on one of the most highly respected performers in the business, Jerry Lynn. We saw this match through a series of segments starting with some frustrating spots for Lynn that ended with Lynn rolling outside the ring to reassess the situation.
As a result of that frustration, Lynn tried to use nefarious tactics to gain some sort of advantage. After a basement dropkick, Lynn tried to cover Banks and use the ropes as leverage, but got caught by the referee. Lynn argued with the referee and even shoved him. Surprisingly, the referee stood his ground and shoved Lynn back as Banks rolled him up for a near fall. After that, Lynn was nearly disqualified for choking Banks on the bottom rope.
In the end, we would see Jerry Lynn climb to the top rope and attempt a cross body. The momentum of the dive caused Banks to roll through and end up on top of Lynn. The referee counted to three and, suddenly, the match was over.
WINNER: ANTONIO BANKS
MATCH #2
PHI DELTA SLAM vs. THE RHODES DYNASTY
The second match of the evening featured Phi Delta Slam taking on Dustin and Dusty Rhodes with a young Cody Rhodes in their corner. Dusty immediately grabbed an arm bar, then looked for crowd support as he signaled a bionic elbow to the arm of Bruno. When Dustin tagged in, Bruno used an eye gouge to gain the upper hand momentarily.
When Dustin hit a reverse atomic drop, followed by an atomic drop and a flying clothesline, all four men ended up in the ring. Dusty hit a bionic elbow to Tilly and Dustin followed with a low blow before throwing Bruno into Tilly’s crotch in the corner. Dustin climbed to the second rope and landed successive punches as the crowd counted along, but Bruno leveled Dustin with a clothesline from the apron to end the rally.
Phi Delta Slam, Tilly specifically, would take over control of most of the rest of the match. However, when Bruno tagged back in, Dustin mustered enough strength to battle through the blood on his forehead and escape a rear chin lock that nearly put him to sleep, in order to make the hot tag to Dusty.
Dusty hit rapid shots and another bionic elbow to the head of Tilly, then he and Dustin hit a double back elbow to get the win. After the match, Phi Delta Slam blindsided Dusty and Dustin. Cody ran in to try to help, but the bad guys grabbed him. Luckily, Dustin chased them off before they could do any damage to the youngster. Good thing, too. I hear that kid has a future in this business…
WINNERS: THE RHODES DYNASTY
