TV Review – Mid-Atlantic Territory Wrestling – Episode 1

The premiere episode of Mid-Atlantic Territory Wrestling aired on their Youtube channel on March 31, 2023. All of this episode’s matches were taped at MATW’s event in Gloucester, Virginia on March 4, 2023 Here is what happened:

MATCH #1
SEAN CRUISE vs. VICTOR ANDREWS

This match looked like it was going to be a brawl as the competitors went after each other ferociously before the bell rang. However, it quickly turned into a chain wrestling clinic. After a reset, Victor Andrews took control when he dropped Sean Cruise neck-first onto the ropes and followed with a gut buster. Andrews lifted Cruise up like a back body drop, then drove him forward into the turnbuckles. As Cruise slumped in the corner, Andrews hit a basement cross body then locked Cruise in a body scissors.

Cruise started a rally when he escaped a body slam attempt and hit a reverse neck breaker followed by a German suplex with a bridge for a near fall. Cruise looked for a pump handle slam, but the savvy Andrews backed him into the turnbuckles to break the hold and hit a snap power slam on Cruise as he charged from the corner. Andrews went for a power bomb, but Cruise reversed it in mid air. However, as both men rose to their feet, Andrews hit the sit-out power bomb to get the win.

After the match, Brent Fleenor interviewed the victorious Victor Andrews. Mr. Everything told Fleenor that Sean Cruise never had a chance because he was all smoke and mirrors.

WINNER: VICTOR ANDREWS

MATCH #2
ADEN CHAMBERS vs. SLEDGE GIBSON

Aden Chambers entered this match flanked by Tarr Dynasty stablemate, Dustin Tarr. However, Tarr’s interference in the match saw him ejected by the referee later. Early on, Gibson seemed to be in firm control after a splash in one corner, followed by a Stinger-style splash in the other. However, when Gibson whipped Chambers into the ropes, Dustin Tarr grabbed him to prevent him from rebounding toward the waiting Gibson. When Gibson charged, Chambers pulled the top rope down and sent Gibson crashing to the outside.

Chambers hopped onto the apron and leapt off, but got caught mid-air by Gibson and driven into the apron. Dustin Tarr again got in Gibson’s way which led Gibson to chase Tarr around the ring. After two full laps around the ring, Chambers intercepted Gibson and used his momentum to propel him into the ring post.

It was Aden Chambers in control once the action returned to the ring. Chambers used an Irish Whip to set up a back elbow for a near fall. Chambers threw Gibson up and over onto the apron. Gibson flipped over Chambers and back into the ring, but got hit with a boot to the face from Chambers for another near fall. Chamber went for a back drop, but Gibson flipped through, hit a back elbow and came off the second rope with a cross body. Chambers was up first and threw Gibson over the top rope. As Gibson tried to skin the cat, Dustin Tarr interfered for the last time as the referee sent Tarr back to the dressing room.

With the odds evened up, Gibson took over. Sledge hit a clothesline, then another that sent Chambers over onto the apron. Chambers climbed to the second rope, but Gibson followed. Chambers used a headbutt to knock Gibson back down to the mat, then attempted a flying cross body. Amazingly, Gibson rolled through and lifted Chambers up in a fireman’s carry face buster to earn the victory.

WINNER: SLEDGE GIBSON

MATCH #3
TARR DYNASTY vs. TOUGH GUY, INC.

Dustin Tarr returned with Christian Tarr for this tag team main event against Brutal Bob Evans and Tim Hughes. Hughes snapped his towel in the Tarr’s direction before the bell rang which led to protests from the bad guys. Bob Evans caused even more frustration when he started biting Dustin Tarr’s fingers out of the view of the referee. When Christian Tarr tagged in, Evans bit his fingers too.

From there, Evans body slammed Dustin, then Christian, then Dustin, then Christian, then the referee…almost. Luckily, Hughes stopped his partner and helped avoid the disqualification. From there, Evans whipped his own partner into Dustin Tarr in one corner, which set off a series of coast-to-coast clotheslines to each of the Tarrs in opposite corners. Hughes ran back and forth so many times, he had to take a breather and catch his breath before starting over with the coast-to-coasts.

At the end of the sequence, Hughes jumped up and down in the center of the ring and the reverberation caused both Tarr’s to fall to the mat simultaneously. As the Tarrs rolled outside, it appeared Evans and Hughes were planning a double tope suicida. However, the Tarrs moved at the last minute and started a brawl on the outside of the ring.

Dustin used a series of elbow drops to take control of the match once the action returned to the ring. Dustin dragged Hughes into his corner and the Tarrs used quick tags to cut off the ring and prevented Hughes from tagging Evans. At one point, Christian distracted the referee so Dustin could use an illegal choke on Hughes to keep him subdued. Hughes tried several times to mount a rally and make the tag, but each time he repelled one of the Tarrs and went for the hot tag, the other Tarr would come in and block Hughes from his corner.

Hughes got his opportunity when he managed to escape the grasp of Christian and evaded a flying double axe handle from Dustin. Hughes somersaulted under the charging Christian and tagged in Bob Evans who took on both Tarrs at the same time and, ultimately, hit a bulldog to Christian and a clothesline to Dustin at the same time.

Evans tagged Hughes back in, then rolled outside brawling with Christian Tarr. Inside the ring, Dustin hit a knee strike and whipped Hughes into the ropes. Hughes came off with a cross body but the momentum rolled Dustin over on top of Hughes. With great ring awareness, Dustin Tarr made the cover and placed his legs on the ropes for leverage unbeknownst to the referee.

WINNERS: TARR DYNASTY
