Live Review – MCW Pro Wrestling “Autumn Armageddon” 10/14/23

MCW Pro Wrestling held its latest Autumn Armageddon tour from the Hollywood Volunteer Firehouse in Hollywood, Maryland on October 14, 2023. Here’s what happened:

MATCH #1
YKIES & CHULO MONTANA vs. LOR DIAZ & DIEGO CRUZ

Self-professed best friends, Ykies and Chulo Montana entered the Hollywood Firehouse with all the confidence in the world. However, it was Lor Diaz and Diego Cruz that had the upper hand in the early stages of the match. Diaz and Cruz not only dominated, but mocked Ykies and Montana, as they kept Chulo Montana from making the tag.

Eventually, Chulo used a rope choke on Lor Diaz to get the referee’s attention so Ykies could kick Diaz in the head behind the back of the official. Moments later, Montana again distracted the referee so Ykies could choke Diaz on the middle rope. From there, Montana and Ykies used quick tags and cut off the ring to prevent Diaz from making the tag.

After Ykies took a turn causing a distraction and Montana took a turn choking Diaz behind the referee’s back, Diaz started to fight back. Several strikes created enough space that Diaz dove toward his corner for the hot tag. Montana blocked Diaz’ first attempt, but could not stop Diaz from crawling under Montana’s legs and rolling to the corner. Diego Cruz entered like a ball of fire and, soon, all four men were in the ring. In the commotion, Cruz pushed Chulo Montana into his partner, then rolled Chulo up for the win.

WINNERS: LOR DIAZ & DIEGO CRUZ

MATCH #2
MUR MUR vs. DICK DYNAMO

Dick Dynamo and Mur Mur spent the early stages of this match feeling each other out, leading to some resets. Mur Mur would take control with a spear and a bionic elbow and kept the upper hand until Dynamo threw his jacket at Mur Mur and hit him with a lariat while he was temporarily blinded.

Dynamo followed with a vicious basement lariat and went for another. Mur Mur ducked the second attempt and rolled Dynamo up for a near fall, but Dynamo regrouped and once again took control of the match. As the match wound down, Mur Mur set Dynamo up for a Cobra Clutch slam, but Dynamo bit Mur Mur to escape. From there, Dick rolled up Mur Mur for the pin and put both legs on the middle rope for extra leverage.

WINNER: DICK DYNAMO

MATCH #3
SIGMA MALES vs. MCBRIDE & KEKOA vs. THE HYPE vs. WASHINGTON & Walls
FOUR CORNERS TAG TEAM MATCH

This four corners tag team match was chaos from the word go. The Hype were the first to take control and cut off the ring to keep their opponents in their corner. However, Kekoa tagged himself in and unloaded with a flurry of offenses that soon saw all eight men brawling in the center of the ring.

When order was finally restored, it was Washington and Fuerte in the ring with Washington in control until a Fuerte cross body nearly earned the victory for the Sigma Males. The Sigmas cut off the ring for a while, then Walls and Washington took control and did the same. Soon, The Hype took control once more with Kekoa back in the ring and successfully kept him from tagging out several times. At one point, Kekoa’s fingertips were just inches away from those of Ryan McBride before Mason Walls blocked the tag.

Later, Khaz Lee climbed to the top rope and Kekoa followed right behind. After an awesome superplex, Kekoa again reached for the tag and, once again, was blocked at the last second. Fed up, Kekoa kicked Khaz Lee and finally made the hot tag. McBride entered and unleashed a flurry of offense that ended with a DDT/Neck Breaker combo to Lee and Malone.

McBride followed with a Blue Thunderbomb before the Sigma Males re-entered and cleared the ring. Washington and Walls re-entered next, then McBride and Kekoa returned and cleared the Sigma Males. McBride hit a Death Valley Driver to Washington, then he and Kekoa climbed to the top rope in opposite corners for simultaneous splashes to get the victory.

After the match, Kekoa cut a quick promo then handed the microphone off to Ryan McBride, who recently announced his retirement at the end of the year. After a standing ovation and chants of “Thank you Ryan!” McBride told the fans that he should be thanking them because Hollywood Firehouse is his favorite venue from his seventeen year career. McBride said it has been an honor and a privilege to entertain the fans and thanked them again as he left Hollywood VFD for the last time.

WINNERS: KEKOA & RYAN MCBRIDE

MATCH #4
JADIS QUINN vs. ALEX DIVINE

Before this match, I leaned over to my wife (she loves the high flyers) and told her that she was going to love this match that featured the acrobatic Alex Divine. Unfortunately for my wife, Jadis Quinn had a different plan. Quinn jumped Divine the moment he entered the ring and worked hard to slow things down and keep Divine’s speed from becoming a factor in the match.

Divine looked to start a rally at one point, but Quinn used the middle rope to choke Alex and retake control. For the next few minutes, Quinn tossed Divine around like a rag doll and continued to punish Alex, but could not put Divine away. Getting more and more frustrated, Quinn began arguing with the referee and slamming the mat when things did no go their way.

Finally, Divine mounted his comeback. Quinn reversed a whip into the corner with an up and over, but Divine pulled Quinn through the ropes for a DDT that left both competitors down. Divine regrouped first and hit an ensiguri with a kip up that brought the crowd to their feet. From there, Divine hit a splash in the corner, ducked two clotheslines, and hit a springboard spear. Next, Divine climbed to the top for a corkscrew splash that put Quinn away for good.

WINNER: ALEX DIVINE

MATCH #5
CAPITAL PUNISHMENT (c) vs. RYAN ZUKKO & NICK COMOROTO
MCW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

The Zukkos, Ronnie and Ryan, were scheduled to take on Capital Punishment for the MCW Tag Team Championships, but Ronnie announced that he had broken his hand the night before at the Autumn Armageddon in Joppa. Not to fear, Zukko lined up a replacement in AEW’s Nick Comoroto.

Comoroto easily overpowered Spencer Slade in the early stages of the match, but the champions took control when Tim Spriggs hit a double leg takedown and a shoulder tackle off the ropes to Ryan Zukko. The champions pulled Zukko into their corner where Spriggs would hit an urunage then tag Slade back in for a series of German Suplexes.

Zukko used a chin buster to create some space and went for the tag, but was blocked by Spencer Slade who locked Zukko in a Texas Cloverleaf in the center of the ring. The champs continued to double team Ryan until Spriggs went for a big boot but got caught. Zukko rolled Spriggs up for a near fall, then hit a spinning suplex that left both men down.

This time, Zukko made the tag to Comoroto who cleared house immediately. Setting Spriggs and Slade up in opposite corners, Comoroto went coast-to-coast at least ten times with splashes to each man, then power slammed Slade for a near fall. Spriggs broke up the pinfall, but was quickly knocked outside the ring by Comoroto.

Ryan Zukko re-entered with a neck breaker to Spencer Slade for a near fall as Comoroto worked to keep Spriggs from breaking up the pin. Spriggs and Comoroto soon tumbled outside as they continued to battle, leaving Zukko alone with Slade. Zukko charged, but Slade reversed him into an ankle lock.

This time, Spriggs did the blocking, locking Comoroto in a Guillotine Choke through the ropes to prevent Nick from helping Ryan escape. However, Comoroto overpowered Spriggs and drove Tim forward into the ring and broke it up anyway. As Slade and Zukko came off the ropes, Spriggs and Comoroto tripped them from. Spriggs hit Comoroto with a high knee as Slade recovered, then the champs hit Zukko with a high- low to retain.

WINNERS: CAPITAL PUNISHMENT

MATCH #6
DEMARCUS KANE (w/GIA SCOTT) vs. JEFF GAINZ (w/SIMONE VALENTINA)

Earlier in the evening, my father leaned over and said “The referee is on the take!” I missed whatever it was he saw to form that opinion, but there was no missing the actions of referee Brandon Green during this match. Jeff Gainz hit an illegal throat punch to Demarcus Kane in full view of the referee, but there were no consequences.

Moments later, Kane hit a back suplex, but only got a one-count from Green who was counting at a snail’s pace. Kane began to argue with Green only to be threatened with disqualification. As Kane argued with Green, Gainz recovered and ambushed Demarcus with a lariat before grabbing a rear chin lock on the mat.

Kane ultimately mounted a comeback after reversing an Irish Whip and hitting clothesline. Demarcus followed with a flapjack, and urunage back breaker and an STO. Kane again made the cover. Green again counted slowly and made it to one. Kane tossed Gainz in the air and connected with a massive upper cut to set up the spinning jackhammer.

During all of this, though, referee Green was holding his face as if he had been struck. When Kane went for the pin, Green rang the bell and disqualified Kane for supposedly striking him at some point. Kane had enough at this point and chased Green out of the arena.

WINNER BY DQ: JEFF GAINZ

MATCH #7
GIA SCOTT vs. SIMONE VALENTINA vs. AMARA VOYD
TRIPLE THREAT MATCH

As Jeff Gainz and Simone Valentina made their way back to the dressing room, Gia Scott took the microphone and told Valentina to get back in the ring for their triple threat match. Newcomer Amara Voyd followed Valentina to the ring and helped Gia Scott gang up on Valentina as the match began.

Voyd and Scott double teamed Valentina, then tossed her outside the ring and faced off against each other. Soon, Valentina tried to re-enter the ring, but Scott immediately tossed her out the other side of the ring like she was Bushwhacker Luke in the Royal Rumble.

Moments later, Valentina snuck in to the ring as Voyd attempted to pin Scott, but Voyd tossed Valentina outside once more. After a double clothesline left Voyd and Scott both down, Valentina snuck in and tried to pin Gia Scott. When that garnered just a two count, Valentina tried to cover Voyd with the same result. Valentina mounted some offense of her own with coast-to-coast spears, then whipped Gia into Amara. Voyd fell outside as Simone covered Gia for a near fall.

Valentina followed with a DDT for another near fall as Amara Voyd climbed up onto the apron. Valentina knocked Voyd off once more and hit another DDT on Gia Scott for yet another near fall. Voyd broke up the pinfall but got hit with a stunner that sent her back out of the ring. Gia Scott recovered, hit Eat Defeat followed by a sit-out powerbomb on Valentina to pick up the victory.

WINNER: GIA SCOTT

MATCH #8
BIG A.C. vs. SOLO

The last match before the main event was a battle of the giants with Big A.C., Adonis Cole, facing off with Solo. The two big men tried to match power for power early on with no clear advantage. A.C. struck first in that regard when a clothesline off the ropes took Solo off of his feet. Solo tried to fight back, but Cassius “Cash” Carter interfered and distracted Solo long enough for A.C. to attack from behind.

Big A.C. hit a splash in one corner, then whipped Solo across and hit another. The third time, Solo moved and unloaded with a series of punches. However, Big A.C. reversed a whip and hit a third splash to thwart the rally. Cole hit a suplex and senton, each for near falls, then locked Solo in a rear chin lock on the mat.

Eventually, Solo fought out, lifted Cole into a fireman’s carry and hit a Samoan Drop that left both men down. Solo was up first and hit an impressive spinebuster and went for the pin. At that moment, Carter jumped onto the apron and distracted the referee to prevent the count.

Furious, Solo pulled Carter into the ring and leveled him with a spear. The diversion, however, was just enough for Big A.C., who clotheslined Solo from behind, then hit the forward slam for the win.

WINNER: BIG A.C.

MATCH #9
BRANDON SCOTT, CHRISTINA MARIE & ROBERT LOCKE vs. MIAMI MIKE, HELLFIRE MCGUIRE & KEN DIXON
SIX PERSON TAG TEAM HOLLYWOOD STREET FIGHT

After getting screwed out of the MCW Heavyweight Championship the night before in Joppa, Miami Mike Walker had something to prove in this Hollywood Street Fight against The Trade and their leader, MCW Champion, Robert Locke. As expected the match was a slobberknocker, with all six people brawling in the ring as the bell rang to start the match.

For some reason, crooked referee Brandon Green was allowed to come back out for the main event and he made his presence known almost immediately. Walker, Hellfire McGuire, and Ken Dixon got a quick three-on-one advantage. When Dixon attempted to pin Robert Locke, Green stopped his count and flipped Dixon off. Furious at how things went earlier in the evening, Demarcus Kane ran out and hit the spinning jackhammer on Green to furious crowd approval.

The lack of an official did not slow down the six competitors at all. Soon, they were all brawling around ringside. Eventually, the bad guys got Miami Mike alone in the ring. Christina Marie set up a ladder in one corner and Locke threw Mike, face-first, into it. As The Trade strutted around the ring in control, Hellfire McGuire quietly pulled Christina Marie out of the ring by her feet. The other two did not notice and, soon, McGuire pulled Brandon Scott out the same way.

With Locke alone in the ring, McGuire and Dixon returned and unloaded on Locke with kendo sticks, then they attacked Brandon Scott with trash can lids. Mike whipped Brandon Scott into one corner, but Scott jumped onto the ladder and hit Miami Mike with a cutter from up high, Christina Marie followed with a spear to Mike as Scott clanged the trash can lids on Dixon’s head this time.

All three members of The Trade were now in the ring will all three of their opponents and fully in control, until Dixon, McGuire and Miami Mike hit simultaneous low blows. Locke dropped, Scott dropped, but Christina Marie was unphased. Even still, Dixon and McGuire got rid of Christina Marie and Brandon Scott, leaving Locke alone in the ring. Dixon put a trash can lid on Locke’s head and they all pummeled it with kendo sticks until Locke curled into the fetal position on the mat.

Dixon hit the flapjack and went for the cover. Miami Mike and Hellfire McGuire piled on top, but there was still no referee. Ref Beckie did run out to ringside, but it was too late as Brandon Scott broke up the pinfall with a crutch shot to the back. Locke hit Hellfire McGuire with a DDT, then climbed the ladder as Brandon and Christine laid Dixon across a wooden table.

The table collapsed just as Dixon leapt up and climbed the ladder with Robert Locke. Dixon hit a superplex that left both men down as Miami Mike took the fallen table and set it up in one corner. Mike went over, helped Dixon lift Locke into the air, then teamed up to drive Locke through the wooden table and get the win.

WINNERS: KEN DIXON, MIAMI MIKE WALKER & HELLFIRE MCGUIRE
