TV Review – CCW Alive Episode 174

Coastal Championship Wrestling “Alive” Episode 174 debuted Tuesday on YouTube. This episode’s matches were pre-taped at CCW Conquer Kissimmee from Sun on the Beach in Kissimmee, Florida on October 13, 2023. Here is what happened:

MATCH #1
CHA CHA CHARLIE & LINDSAY SNOW vs. BLAKE TROOP & AMBER NOVA

The referee took preemptive action and ejected Blake Troop’s Scumbags from ringside before the match began, but they would make their presence known later. In the interim, Cha Cha Charlie and Amber Nova ran in for this mixed tag match and immediately started fighting. Snow and Troop powdered, but soon were hit with simultaneous topes suicida from Nova and Charlie.

When the action returned to the ring, it was Snow and Nova face-to-face. Nova quickly hit a hurricanrana and got a near fall on a back slide. However, Snow countered a sunset flip and unloaded with shots to Nova forcing Nova to tag out to Cha Cha Charlie. Instead of leaving the ring, as per the rules of a mixed tag match, Snow stood face to face with Charlie as if she intended to spar with the former CCW Champion.

Of course it was all a distraction and Blake Troop ambushed Charlie moments later. Troop immediately started working the leg with an ankle lock, but soon released it and hit a gut wrench suplex and a full nelson slam. Charlie fought back from the corner with a second rope sling blade that sent Troop to the corner to tag back out.

This time, Lindsay Snow was dead set on engaging with Charlie. Snow went for a flying cross body to enter the ring, but Charlie caught her in mid-air. Charlie dropped Snow then tried to tag out, but the tenacious Snow wrapped Charlie in a leg lock until Amber Nova ran in to break it up. Nova hit a DDT on Snow and climbed to the second rope for a cross body.

Blake Troop caught Nova in mid-air before Snow instructed Troop to set Nova down. Snow hit several hard kicks and a lariat which sent both ladies out of the ring. Still in the ring, Troop went back to working on the knee of Charlie, slamming it into the mat and twisting it like a pretzel. At one point, Charlie nearly submitted to an ankle lock.

Charlie escaped with an ensiguri, then followed with a second one and a Saito Suplex. With some momentum, Charlie started doing the Cha Cha to signal the Mangu Splash. However, when he reached the top rope, Snow distracted the referee. This allowed Dirty Devin Diaz to run in and attack Charlie without being seen.

Amazingly, the referee missed the whole thing, resulting in no disqualification. However, when the action returned to the ring, Snow whipped Nova into the ropes but Blake Troop hit a spinebuster on Nova that forced the official to call for the bell. After the match, Cha Cha Charlie challenged Troop to a one-on-one steel cage match at the next Conquer Kissimmee event.

WINNERS: CHA CHA CHARLIE & AMBER NOVA

MATCH #2
JAKE ST. PATRICK (c) vs. ARIEL DOMINGUEZ
CCW CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

There was an extended feeling out period to start this match, with the challenger, Ariel Dominguez, utilizing his speed with a sort of stick-and-move strategy that eventually confused the champion enough to roll outside the ring to regroup. Dominguez followed for a short ringside skirmish, but the action quickly returned to the ring where St. Patrick used a snap mare, low kick and a double stomp to take control.

St. Patrick dominated the middle stages of the match with Dominguez relentless in his attempt to rally. Dominguez escaped a fireman’s carry, only to get nailed with a knee strike. Seconds later, Ariel escaped a suplex and tried a small package, but St. Patrick returned fire with two regular suplexes and a Fisherman’s for a near fall.

Finally, Dominguez managed to pull the rope down as St. Patrick charged and followed with one tope, then another. Dominguez tossed the champion back into the ring and climbed to the top rope for a flying cross body. St. Patrick withstood the move but rolled through and lifted the challenger into a urunage.

After a senton resulted in another near fall, St. Patrick tried to slow things down once more. Dominguez continued to fight back and hit a back elbow off of a whip, then a shoulder tackle, flying clothesline and a Michinoku Driver for a near fall. Dominguez tried to capitalize with a step-up DDT, but St. Patrick blocked it with a kick to the face and crawled to one corner.

In tribute to the late Windham Rotunda, St. Patrick bent over backwards in the corner and crawled toward Dominguez on his hands, then looked to go for a Sister Abigail. Dominguez escaped the first time, but St. Patrick hit the move successfully moments later. When Dominguez somehow kicked out at two, the frustration was written all over the champion’s face.

St. Patrick retrieved a steel chair from ringside, but the referee immediately confiscated it. As the referee put the chair back outside the ring, St. Patrick grabbed the Cruiserweight Championship belt and nailed Dominguez in the head. The referee turned around to count the sure pinfall, but Ariel unbelievably kicked out.

Furious, St. Patrick went to the corner to “tune up the band.” Dominguez saw it coming and blocked the spin kick, then hit a Michinoku Driver. When that garnered just a two count, Dominguez hit another, then another to seal the victory and the CCW Cruiserweight Championship.

WINNER AND NEW CHAMPION: ARIEL DOMINGUEZ
