EWA Pro Wrestling presented “Summer Sizzler” from Independent Brewing Company in Bel Air, Maryland on August 10, 2024. Here’s what happened:
MATCH #1
J.B. ANDERSON & HERO NAPIER vs. JESSE O’RYAN & TMHK

J.B. Anderson and Hero Napier looked like big, bad, confident dudes headed to the ring with weapons like a barbed wire bat. Moments later, though, fans were calling them chickens because, after an early flurry of offense from TMHK and Jesse O’Ryan, they did not want to get back in the ring.
When Anderson and Napier finally returned, TMHK and O’Ryan successfully cut off the ring and kept Hero Napier in their corner, but not for long. Napier used an eye poke to O’Ryan to create some distance, then tagged Anderson who quickly hit an elbow drop, gut buster, and back drop, then moved O’Ryan into the corner.
From there, Napier and Anderson kept O’Ryan away from his partner for several minutes, using referee distractions and nefarious tactics to maintain their advantage. TMHK tried to protest several times, but ended up distracting the referee even more, leading to more cheating from Anderson and Napier.
Eventually, O’Ryan hit a modified Sliced Bread and dove to make the tag. TMHK immediately hit what looked like a sit-out spinebuster and lifted Anderson onto the top turnbuckle. Hero Napier snuck in and assisted Anderson on a double power bomb to TMHK.
After O’Ryan prevented a pinfall at the last second, Napier went outside to retrieve the barbed wire bat. When Napier swung the bat, O’Ryan took it from him. O’Ryan histated for a second, then thought better of using the bat on Napier. Instead, O’Ryan tossed it out of the ring, then teamed up with TMHK for a DDT/choke slam combination to pick up the win.
WINNERS: TMHK & JESSE O’RYAN
MATCH #2
CHRISTOPHER ANDINO (c) vs. STELMAN SMITH
EWA MARYLAND CHAMPIONSHIP

After an extended feeling out process, leading to several resets, Stelman Smith tried to use shoulder tackles against Maryland Champion, Christopher Andino. When those had no effect whatsoever, Andino took his turn and leveled the challenger on the first try. Now on offense, Andino hit a few loud chops, then grabbed Smith by the head and ran his face along the top ring rope.
Smith tried to fight back with some chops of his own. However, when he stood on the second rope over Andino and landed punches as the fans counted, the champion slipped out and sent Smith crashing back to the mat with a Blue Thunder Bomb. Smith rolled outside the ring and Andino followed as they battled around ringside. Andino missed a chop and hit the ring post, but quickly righted the ship by slamming Smith onto the apron.
Smith tried to springboard back into the ring, but Andino caught him in mid-air and reversed with a spinning side slam for a near fall. Not finished yet, Smith tried to mount a rally after a short-arm sling blade with a series of running forearms, an Olympic Slam and a Blockbuster off the second rope. Smith climbed to the second rope and leapt, but Andino again caught the challenger in mid-air. This time, Andino converted into a sidewalk slam and made cover for another successful title defense.
WINNER: CHRISTOPHER ANDINO
MATCH #3
EZRA LOGAN vs. JAGERMEISTER

Ezra Logan wasted no time and attacked Jagermeister during his entrance. This led to a brawl around ringside until Jagermeister threw Logan back into the ring. A full nelson stunner left Jagermeister seemingly in control. However, Logan rolled out of the ring, waited for Jagermeister to approach, then snapped Jager’s arm on the ropes to turn the tide in his favor.
Logan returned to the ring and continued to focus on the right arm of Jagermeister. Logan wrapped the arm around the ring ropes multiple times, dropped a leg on the arm, and even hit a Codebreaker to the right upper extremity of Jagermeister.
Vinnie Versace started berating Logan from ringside, which distracted Ezra just long enough for Jagermeister to regroup. Jagermeister whipped Logan across the ring and hit a splash, then followed with an elbow drop for a near fall. Jagermeister lifted Logan into a fireman’s carry, but Logan escaped and grabbed a Fujiwara arm bar that converted into a cross face submission from which there would be no escape.
WINNER: EZRA LOGAN
MATCH #4
“STURDY” SAL MISTRETTA (c) vs. JOHN BERG (w/JIM CHRISTIAN)
EWA CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

The EWA Cruiserweight Champion, “Sturdy” Sal Mistretta made an early mistake when he chopped John Berg. The challenger took serious offense to the chop and chased Mistretta around ringside until Mistretta slid back into the ring. When Berg went to chop Mistretta again, Sal grabbed Berg’s hand and said, “Whoa! Wait! I got you a present.”
Mistretta went out to ringside, grabbed two beers, returned to the ring, and proposed a toast with Berg. Unbelievably, Berg took Mistretta up on his offer and immediately regretted it. The champion chugged his drink then kicked Berg in the stomach. The rookie move by John Berg allowed the champion to take control of the match for an extended period.
Even though he dominated the middle stages of the match, Sal Mistretta could not seem to put Berg away. A snap mare and basement clothesline from behind got a two count. A boot to the midsection and a snap DDT got the same result. As his frustration grew, Mistretta began arguing with fans at ringside. This gave Berg a chance to rally with hard chops in each of the four corners followed by a whip and clothesline in the corner.
After a near fall, Berg whipped Mistretta into the ropes but missed with a chop on Mistretta’s rebound. Sal ducked a second chop on his next rebound, then speared Berg out of his shoes. Again, the champion made the cover, but could not secure the three count. Now showing visible frustration, Mistretta lifted Berg into a fireman’s carry. Berg escaped, whipped Sal to the opposite corner, and hit a splash and a body slam that set up a frog splash to earn Berg the victory and the Cruiserweight Championship.
WINNER AND NEW CHAMPION: JOHN BERG
MATCH #5
BEEFCAKE & COLIN SHEEN vs. TYLER MOORE & JOHNLEE KIRK

Beefcake and JohnLee Kirk exchanged abdominal stretches at the very beginning of the match. Kirk escaped the last stretch, but his ensuing shoulder tackles had no effect. Instead, Beefcake dropped Kirk with just one shoulder tackle, then tagged Colin Sheen. Sheen and Beefcake hit back-to-back splashes, then Beefcake whipped Sheen into Kirk for a third splash.
Sheen hit a series of arm drags, then stood on the second rope over Tyler Moore as the fans counted the punches. When a facebuster from the second rope led to a near fall, Sheen followed with a leg drop bulldog. Moore managed to reverse a whip with a knee to the face, then whipped Sheen into the ropes where JohnLee Kirk was waiting with a knee to Sheen’s back from the apron.
Kirk returned to the ring with a strike to Sheen’s midsection, then he distracted the referee while Tyler Moore choked Sheen from behind. Now in control, Kirk focused on the right leg of Colin Sheen, then tagged in Tyler Moore who targeted Sheen’s right arm. After Moore snapped Sheen’s arm over the top rope, Kirk returned and immediately locked Sheen in a Boston Crab that later converted into a single leg crab.
Sheen escaped the hold and made a beeline for his partner, but JohnLee Kirk knocked Beefcake off of the apron first. Beefcake protested which, of course, led to a double team on Sheen behind the referee’s back. Tyler Moore hit a basement dropkick to Sheen’s leg, then grabbed a rear chin lock that nearly put Sheen to sleep. When Sheen escaped, he hit a headbutt and a swinging neck breaker that left both men down.
Sheen crawled toward his corner and the hot tag appeared imminent, but, at the last second, JohnLee Kirk ran around the ring and pulled Beefcake off of the apron to, once again, prevent the tag. At the same time, Tyler Moore hit a springboard splash on Sheen for a near fall.
Soon after, Moore lifted Sheen onto the top buckle and climbed up with him. Sheen knocked Moore down, so Moore went inverted in the corner, wrapped his legs around Sheen’s neck and drove Colin down to the mat. This left both men down long enough that Sheen regrouped and made the tag to Beefcake before Moore could recover.
Beefcake immediately went on offense against both Moore and Kirk, but tagged Sheen right back into the match moments later. Beefcake and Sheen teamed up for a Hart Attack on JohnLee Kirk that nearly ended the match. After Tyler Moore dove to break up the pinfall, Beefcake tossed Moore out of the ring. Moore pulled Beefcake out by the leg. Alone in the ring with Sheen, JohnLee Kirk used a leg lock submission to force Sheen to quit. After the match, Kirk refused to release the hold as he seemed intent on injuring Sheen. Beefcake chased them off, but not until the damage was done.
WINNERS: TYLER MOORE & JOHNLEE KIRK
MATCH #6
EEL O’NEAL vs. SHANE STAY

Neither competitor could gain or maintain an advantage early in this contest. The action intensified when O’Neal tried to hip toss Shane Stay, but was blocked. Stay tried a hip toss, but O’Neal blocked. On and on they went until they reached the ropes. At that point, O’Neal and Stay rolled outside and brawled at ringside. The referee’s count reached nine before both men dove back into the ring to avoid a double countout.
The competitors exchanged shots on their knees, then on their feet until Stay shifted the momentum in his direction with a running kick and a boot choke in the corner. Stay tried to whip O’Neal into the ropes, but Eel held on to block the move. Stay tried to whip O’Neal into the corner, but was reversed. O’Neal charged, Stay went up and over then hit a clothesline, snap mare and a series of low kicks.
O’Neal continued to fight back after an exchange of shots in the center of the ring led to a tilt-a-whirl slam. O’Neal followed with a Dragon Suplex, then locked Shane Stay in a Camel Clutch. Stay escaped and somehow had enough left in the tank to hit a superkick, suplex, and a series of low kicks to O’Neal. O’Neal slumped into one corner. Stay charged for a splash, but O’Neal caught him in mid-air and converted into a back breaker. From there, O’Neal used a suplex to set up the Texas Cloverleaf.
WINNER: EEL O’NEAL
MATCH #7
KAMEN MK vs. RAY “MR. SWIFTIE” CASTRO

“Mr. Swiftie” Ray Castro was a big hit with the younger members of the audience as he entered to a Taylor Swift song. Throughout the match, you could hear young voices chanting, “Swiftie! Swiftie!” This befuddled Kamen MK who could not understand why anyone would cheer his opponent.
Castro struck early with a series of arm drags that sent Kamen MK out of the ring to regroup. Castro was having none of that and followed right behind. When the action returned to the ring, Kamen MK used a flurry of offense to set up a lateral press for a near fall. Kamen MK looked for a modified Cattle Mutilation, but rolled over and turned it into a bow-and-arrow.
Castro managed to reverse into his own bow-and-arrow, but Kamen reversed it back. Kamen started with a hammer lock, but looked to convert it into a surfboard, or so I thought. Instead, he rolled onto his side for a unique pin combination that nearly ended the match.
Castro blocked an overhand strike and regained control with a boot to the midsection, body slam and chops in the corner. Castro tried to charge the corner, but Kamen got both feet up in Castro’s face. Castro charged again with the same result. The third time, Castro caught MK’s feet and yanked him down to the mat.
After a Castro side slam, Kamen suddenly rolled Castro up for a near fall, then used a crucifix for another, and a back slide for yet another near fall. Castro followed with three clotheslines, a boot to the midsection, and a suplex for a near fall. Castro looked for the cross arm breaker, but Kamen MK clasped his hands to block the move, then rolled Castro over for a near fall that also broke the hold.
Kamen MK hit a lariat that left both men down, but Castro was up first. Mr. Swiftie went for a suplex but was blocked. Kamen hit a series of strikes and clotheslines, then got one final near fall with an O’Connor roll. Seconds later, the masked man hit a pump handle suplex that finally ended the night for Ray Castro.
WINNER: KAMEN MK
MATCH #8
EDDIE BLAS & GEORGE LAFLEUR (c) vs. OLDMAN YOUNGBOY & SYLER MASON
EWA TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

George LaFleur and Oldman Youngboy put on an impressive display of chain wrestling in the opening moments of this match, but a less scientific move shifted the momentum when LaFleur yanked Youngboy’s mustache off of his face. In response, Oldman Youngboy locked LaFleur in a modified Camel Clutch. By “modified,” I mean that, instead of grabbing the chin, Youngboy used the handle bars of LaFleur’s mustache for leverage.
Eddie Blas and Syler Mason faced off next. Blas hit a discus lariat and tagged LaFleur back in for a double whip and double hip toss, followed by a cartwheel and basement dropkick from Eddie Blas. Mason managed to tag in Youngboy, then hit a spinebuster to a charging Lafleur before letting Youngboy stand on his shoulders for a flying elbow drop to LaFleur.
Eddie Blas returned and blocked a German suplex from Oldman with an elbow, then body slammed Youngboy as LaFleur climbed to the top turnbuckle. Not the legal man, LaFleur walked along the top ropes, then hit a flying elbow drop to Youngboy. Blas made the cover, but could not get the three count.
Blas charged Youngboy in the corner, but missed. Oldman tagged Syler Mason, who grabbed Blas in a full nelson as Oldman Youngboy dropkicked Blas in the face. Blas shook it off, splashed Syler Mason, and tagged LaFleur back in for a double suplex. After a near fall, George hit a back suplex, inverted atomic drop, and spinning back breaker for another near fall.
Mason summoned enough strength to catch LaFleur in a snap powerslam as George came off the ropes which left both men down on the mat. Mason crawled over to tag Youngboy, who would not accept the tag until he reattached his mustache to his face. Once that occurred, Youngboy entered the ring as LaFleur locked Mason in a full nelson. Youngboy dropkicked Mason in the chest, which broke the hold and propelled LaFleur completely out of the ring.
When LaFleur returned, Youngboy body slammed him and followed with a standing moonsault for a near fall. Youngboy tagged Mason who was immediately speared by Eddie Blas. Oldman Youngboy dropkicked Blas, but the move had no effect. LaFleur ran in, whipped Youngboy into the corner face first, then hit a German Suplex. Mason came from behind and hit a belly-to-belly suplex on LaFleur. Moments later, as Oldman tossed Blas to the outside, Syler Mason hit a Fisherman’s Suplex on LaFleur for the pinfall and the tag team titles.
WINNERS AND NEW CHAMPIONS: OLDMAN YOUNGBOY & SYLER MASON
MATCH #9
CHEESEBURGER vs. ERWIN VON SCHARF

Cheeseburger pulled out all the stops as this match got underway. After an early flurry, CB used a leap frog to get in position for a unique hammer lock/arm bar during which he stepped onto von Scharf’s back and yanked Erwin’s left arm all the way in the wrong direction. Later, Cheeseburger hit a series of chops and a splash, then did a handstand and dropped double knees on Erwin’s midsection.
Erwin von Scharf fought back in one corner and dropped an elbow on Cheeseburger. When that garnered just a one count, von Scharf grabbed an arm bar and started biting Cheeseburger’s forearm. When the referee forced a break, von Scharf went back to the arm bar. Cheeseburger fought his way out of the hold and charged, but von Scharf tripped him and started choking him with the middle rope.
After another elbow drop and near fall, von Scharf charged the corner, but Cheeseburger rolled out of the way. Cheeseburger hit a series of low kicks to the calf of von Scharf followed by a Saito Suplex. After a near fall, Cheeseburger grabbed a single leg crab and held it until Erwin reached the ropes to force a break.
Cheeseburger charged the corner, but Erwin reversed him into a DDT for a near fall. Erwin attempted a double underhook maneuver, but Cheeseburger escaped. Von Scharf charged the corner but Cheeseburger cartwheeled out of the way and nailed Erwin with a superkick.
Cheeseburger hit several forearm strikes before von Scharf reversed him into a short arm clothesline for a near fall followed by a sunset flip for another. Cheeseburger responded with an Oklahoma Roll followed by a running palm strike. After one final near fall, though, Cheeseburger locked von Scharf in a single leg crab that forced Erwin von Scharf to tap out.
WINNER: CHEESEBURGER
