City Championship Wrestling “3rd Anniversary” – 6/1/24

City Championship Wrestling made their 3rd Anniversary event, which took place on June 1, 2024 from L’Anse Creuse High School in Harrison Township, Michigan, available to view on their Youtube channel this week. Here’s what happened:

MATCH #1
GUTTER vs. MIKE MARVEL
WINNER ENTERS 50 MAN BATTLE ROYAL

Gutter took control of this match from the early going and used a spinning DDT to keep the momentum on his side. Mike Marvel hit an ensiguri and climbed to the top rope, but Gutter got up and pushed him off the top rope into the second ring. Marvel tried to springboard back in from the second ring with a cross body and missed. Gutter went for a Pedigree, but Marvel wriggled out and rolled up Gutter for the victory.

WINNER: MIKE MARVEL

MATCH #2
WAR HOSS vs. NONE MORE VIOLENT

None More Violent took control of this match with a double team but were quickly subdued by Crosshairs Kelly, who turned things over to Pat the Bruiser for a nasty splash. War Hoss continued to dominate CHO until he escaped a back drop, landed on his feet and tagged Jinn. Hallows came in hot, but Pat the Bruiser ran in and knocked CHO off of the apron. From there it was a War Hoss double crucifix power bomb and the one, two, three.

WINNERS: WAR HOSS

MATCH #3
ARMANDO ALVAREZ vs. GRAN TRUENO

Early in this match, a Gran Trueno flurry sent Armando Alvarez to the second ring to regroup. Trueno leapt to the top rope for a shotgun dropkick into the second ring. However, Alvarez rolled out to the floor, waited for the right moment, then nailed Trueno coming through the ropes for a tope suicida.

Back inside the ring, Alvarez slowed thing down and maintained control while taunting the crowd. Alvarez would eventually miss a top rope frog splash and Trueno looked to rally after a tope con hilo. However, Alvarez kicked the ropes as Trueno tried to re-enter the ring, then climbed to the top for a double stomp.

WINNER: ARMANDO ALVAREZ

MATCH #4
KING KONG COLEMAN vs. TOMMY RINKS

King Kong Coleman’s power was too much for Tommy Rinks as this match got underway, making one wonder if there was any way Rinks could battle back. There was not. After less than a minute of dominance, Coleman sat on Rinks’ chest and unloaded with shots until the referee called for the bell.

WINNER: KING KONG COLEMAN

MATCH #5
THOSE F’N GUYS vs. GOLDEN BROTHERS

The Golden Brothers started hot, but when Harley Rock threw Don Tone into the corner, Jay Leo tagged himself in. Tone ricocheted off of the corner with a somersault into a cutter on Harley Rock as Leo entered and held Rock for a running knee from Tone.

From there, Those F’n Guys overpowered and dominated Harley Rock, thwarting multiple promising rally attempts. Rock eventually kneed his way out of a suplex and dove for the tag. Nev Ryder hit the ring like a ball of fire, taking on both men by himself, then teaming with Rock for a dual DDT that nearly ended the match. The four men each broke off into pairs, one in each ring. Ryder subdued Tone, then leapt to the top rope for a frog splash after a hammerlock slam from Rock.

When that failed to earn them the victory, Ryder jumped back up to the top rope, but was knocked into the second ring by tone. At the same time, though, Rock reversed an Irish Whip with a sunset flip and the match was over.

WINNERS: THE GOLDEN BROTHERS

MATCH #6
LANCE STAR vs. JONTAE KEITH

These two evenly matched competitors went back and forth with neither side gaining an advantage which led to multiple resets. Jontae Keith took control after he skinned the cat, grabbed the approaching Lance Star by the neck with his feet, and sent Star hurtling to the floor.

Keith maintained control until a long rally ended with an inverted Atomic Bomb and a clothesline over the top rope from Lance Star. Keith swung the momentum with a springboard sunset flip as he re-entered the ring, got a near fall with a dropkick off of a whip, then got another with a missile dropkick from the top rope.

Star used an eye poke to start his comeback, then climbed to the top rope for a superplex. When that failed to end the match, Star whipped Keith into the ropes. Keith attempted a sunset flip, but Star held on and rolled it forward into his own pin for the win. After the match, the two men hugged, then Jontae Keith hit Star with a low blow.

WINNER: LANCE STAR

MATCH #7
JASON DE MILO vs. MR. KILLMOORE
WINNER ENTERS 50 MAN BATTLE ROYAL

Newcomer Mr. Killmoore, had Jason De Milo confounded with his unusual style of offense early in this match, but De Milo used a throat strike to set up a rolling neck breaker to gain control. Killmoore tried to rally, but De Milo dropped him, neck-first, onto the top rope.

Eventually, Killmore started to comeback when he hit a Cena-esque shoulder tackle, then an Atomic Drop and an inverted Atomic Drop. Killmoore hit a modified Five Knuckle Shuffle with his thumb, then lifted De Milo up for an airplane spin. De Milo escaped and came off the ropes with a Shining Wizard, then locked Killmoore in Chronostasis for the win.

WINNER: JASON DE MILO

MATCH #8
KILLER INSTINCT & RIKKI MORRIS vs. GRIM REALITY & LEELA HALL
SIX PERSON INTERGENDER TAG TEAM MATCH

These two teams clearly have long-standing animosity. The match began with a six person brawl in the center of the ring. When order was restored, it was Gunner in control of Devon Ryker, until the ladies tagged in.

Leela Hall got the better of Rikki Morris, until Gunner Wixx ran in and tried to chokeslam Hall. AOD made the save for Hall, but Gunner Wixx hit Ryker with a choke slam. As both men rolled out of the ring, the ladies returned. With the referee’s back turned, Morris grabbed a weapon, hit Hall in the face, and made the cover just as the official turned back around.

WINNERS: KILLER INSTINCT & RIKKI MORRIS

MATCH #9
NEW ALBANIA vs. DUB CLUB
TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP #1 CONTENDER MATCH

The action spilled outside as Jay Abrams dominated early. However, Dub Club turned the tide when Ryan Matthias dodged a strike from Jay Abrams, causing Abrams to hit to ring post. Back in the ring, Dub Club used tandem offense to keep Jay Abrams under wraps in their corner.

Abrams used his power to overcome Ryan Matthias, then tagged in Ike Watts who slowed things down with a camel clutch. Reynolds returned, but the outcome did not change. New Albania cut off the ring and hit back-to-back splashes in the corner on the diminutive K.J. Reynolds. When they tried the same trick again, Reynolds moved and made the tag to Matthias. Matthias got a near fall on a standing shooting star press, then looked to body slam Jay Abrams.

After that obvious miscalculation, Abrams tagged Watts. Moments later, Andre Kebashi jumped onto the apron and slapped Watts to cause a disqualification. Realizing an injustice had occurred, Paul Bowser came out and restarted the match. As soon as the bell rang to restart, Matthias hit a running boot to Watts and a missile dropkick to Abrams on the apron. From there, Matthias body slammed Watts, with the assistance of K.J. Reynolds, then Reynolds hit a frog splash to earn the Dub Club a shot at the Motor City Machine Guns.

WINNERS: DUB CLUB

MATCH #10
MOTOR CITY MACHINE GUNS vs. DUB CLUB
CCW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley watched everything unfold from the back, then came out to the ring and offered to have their title match right there and then. The action quickly spilled outside the ring with all four men battling around ringside. Back inside the ring, the Guns quickly gained control of K.J. Reynolds, working in tandem and targeting his left leg.

At one point, Matthias ran in to help, but the Guns locked both men in figure four leg locks. When Matthias was able to tag back in, he and Reynolds used some Machine Guns-style offense of their own to turn the tide on Chris Sabin. Now, it was Matthias working the leg of Alex Shelley for an extended period, holding single leg crabs twice in a short time.

Shelley used a reverse STO in the corner to be able to tag Sabin, who immediately knocked Matthias off of the apron, then jumped to the apron and kicked Matthias in the face. Sabin and Shelley returned to the ring, hit a Magic Killer on Reynolds, but could not seal the deal. Shelley climbed to the top rope, but Reynolds knocked him off and hit a tornado DDT to Sabin. Matthias threw Shelley outside the ring, then hit a shooting star press to Sabin for another near fall.

Moments later, Sabin escaped a crucifix bomb and shoved Reynolds into Matthias as Shelley returned. With Reynolds out of the way, The Guns showed Matthias how their tandem offense is supposed to look. After a cutter by Sabin, Shelley hit a rolling cutter to Reynolds, then Sabin hit Matthias with a fireman’s carry driver to put away the Dub Club.

WINNERS AND NEW CHAMPIONS: MOTOR CITY MACHINE GUNS

MATCH #11
YETI HENDERSON vs. JACK DELANEY

Yeti Henderson attacked Jack Delaney with a log before the bell rang. Delaney quickly turned the tide by sidestepping a charging Yeti and hitting a suicide dive to the outside. From there, Delaney climbed to the top for a shotgun dropkick, connected with a superkick, then drilled Yeti Henderson with a Brain Buster for the quick win.

WINNER: JACK DELANEY

MATCH #12
50 MAN TWO RING BATTLE ROYAL

Once the match started, Ike Watts and Jay Abrams of New Albania cleared one of the two rings virtually unassisted. They waited as the other ring slowly cleared and when it was down to seven, the rings were combined. But as that happened, Paul Bowser came out from the back and clocked Abrams with a steel chair inexplicably. At the same time, The Demon Mollock came out from the back, entered the ring, eliminated Jason De Milo, and followed him to the back.

The final five were Jay Abrams, Rob Young, Paragon, Darion Ultra and King Kong Coleman. Young was dispatched quickly, as was Darion Ultra…or so it seemed. With Coleman, Paragon, and Abrams battling near the ropes, Andre Kebashi ran in and tossed them all over the rope, presumably so there would be no number one contender. However, as Kebashi celebrated his stroke of genius, Darion Ultra, who it turns out had not been eliminated, ran in, tossed Kebashi over the top rope and was declared the winner.

WINNER: DARION ULTRA

MATCH #13
ANDRE KABASHI (c) vs. FREEDOM RAMSEY
CCW HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

The champion kept getting frustrated by Freedom Ramsey and left the ring to regroup on the floor multiple times. Of course it was all a ruse to bait Ramsey out to ringside. Once there, Kebashi attacked Freedom and took control of the match. Inside the ring, Ramsey used a back elbow to set up a lariat, a running knee, and a fisherman’s suplex to shift the momentum in his direction.

As soon as that happened, New Albania got involved. First, it was Ike Watts who ran in and jumped onto the apron, only to be immediately dispatched by Ramsey. Later, with the referee’s vision apparently impaired by a poke to the eye, Jay Abrams appeared from the back. Kebashi knocked the referee out which allowed he and Abrams to double team Ramsey.

The referee came to after Kebashi hit a rolling neck breaker, but it was too late and Ramsey kicked out of the pinfall attempt. Kebashi went back to the neck breaker, but Ramsey dropped him, neck first, onto the top rope. In so doing, Ramsey accidentally knocked the referee out once again, prompting a second official to come from the back.

Ramsey leapt to the top rope, but Abrams knocked him back down to the mat in front of the new referee. Ramsey continued to fight and hit a running knee strike to Kebashi, but Abrams pulled the new referee out of the ring before he could count three. At that point, it was Abrams and Watts in the ring with their hands in the air in celebration after a dual power bomb to Ramsey. A third referee ran in to make the count, but again, it was too late.

When Ramsey kicked out, Kebashi whipped Ramsey into the corner and into the referee, knocking out yet another official. Dub Club finally ran in to neutralize New Albania, leaving Ramsey alone with Kebashi. Ramsey ducked a chair shot and hit Fists of Freedom, but there was no referee. Finally, a fourth official ran in from the back, counted the three, and presented the belt to CCW’s new heavyweight champion.

WINNER AND NEW CHAMPION: FREEDOM RAMSEY
