Dynamite Championship Wrestling (formerly known as Delaware Championship Wrestling) was created in 2003 and is co-owned by spouses David and Heather Kline. They currently run events at the Marydel Fire Department in Marydel, Delaware and The Delaware Auto Exchange in Felton, Delaware. However, they have run events in all three counties over the years.

According to their Facebook page, “[DCW] supports our local communities, and local events. We also take pride in working with a variety of charities through out the year. We do big events for the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation every December. We have also done events for American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Code Purple, Renee’s Rescues, HPS Network, Police Athletic League (PAL), American Cancer Society, and more.”

The Delaware Auto Exchange has been in business for 21 years and they continue to experience growth each and every year. They are Delaware’s largest public dealer and auto auction. They have automobile auctions held every Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. This Thursday, alone, the Delaware Auto Exchange will auction off over 150 vehicles. Delaware Auto Exchange owner, wrestling performer, and DCW Hall of Famer Ron Faison, unfortunately passed away in 2021, but his legacy in the wrestling business lives on.

When I arrived at the venue, I waited inside the vestibule area with other fans for the doors to open. From the vestibule, there is a lobby area with bathrooms that leads to another set of double doors to the arena itself. Inside the arena, there was a food truck/concession stand to the left with picnic tables set out for comfortable dining. On the right side, there were tables set up for performers such as Zakk Ramses, Dezmon King, Mr. Ooh La La, and Live Action Luke to sell merchandise and meet with the fans.

The arena part of the venue is set up inside the bays in which the folks at Delaware Auto Exchange pull the cars into the building for auction. It is a wide open space which is perfect for wrestling. However, it is not as insulated from the outside elements as you might expect. This event took place in the winter, and most fans kept their coats and hats on during the event. If you attend a DCW event here in the future, dress accordingly.

HALL OF FAME INDUCTION CEREMONY
CRAIG PRENDERGAST

Craig Prendergast and Zac “The Ripper” Conner

Prior to the first match, ring announcer David Adams called on DCW President Zac “The Ripper” Conner to introduce the newest member of the DCW Hall of Fame, Craig Prendergast. Conner talked about Prendergast’s long history in the business dating back to his days as a photographer for ECW in the 1990s, through his time as a referee and an authority figure with DCW. Prendergast talked for several minutes about his decision to train as a wrestler for the first time at the age of forty, his time in DCW, and the people who supported him along the way.

MATCH #1
J.B.ANDERSON vs. LIVE ACTION LUKE

“The Violent Breed” J.B. Anderson after a bitter defeat at the hands of Live Action Luke

This was the first of several “New Talent Initiative” matches of the evening. The first competitor, who like me, originally hails from “The Wrong Side of PG County,” was The Violent Breed, J.B. Anderson. His opponent, clearly the crowd favorite, was Live Action Luke.

The match started with several resets as each man looked to gain the upper hand. Anderson missed a dropkick and rolled out onto the apron for a breather. When Luke approached his fallen opponent, Anderson nailed Luke with a sucker punch. From there, Anderson went on a vicious attack that ended with a second rope reverse elbow drop Anderson calls, “The Stage Dive.”

It was ultimately, Live Action Luke’s night, however. Thinking he had the advantage, Anderson whipped Luke into the opposite corner. Luke rebounded out of the corner with a lariat followed by a hard running knee. Luke called out to the crowd, “LIVE….” and the crowd responded, “…ACTION!” as Luke hit a Zig Zag for the win.

WINNER: LIVE ACTION LUKE

MATCH #2
THE HYPE & FENIX FURY vs. OMEGA PHOENIX, HOBBO HARRY & ETHAN ESSEX

Omega Phoenix, Ethan Essex, and Hobbo Harry stare down their opponents

The Hype entered the arena first for this six-man tag team man and were met with a chorus of boos. Jay King and Khazman Lee argued with, and yelled at, the fans at ringside for showing such little respect to the team. Hobbo Harry had a whole different set of problems as he and his teammates, DCW Tag Champions, Scum of the Ashes made their way to the ring.

Hobbo Harry’s homemade championship belt fell apart before the match started, which caused considerable panic for Harry. Once inside the ring, Harry fell victim to his own fear of chattering toy teeth which found their way onto the mat somehow. This sent Harry into a gibberish-laced tirade that was understood by no one.

The two teams met in the center of the ring and started brawling before the bell even rang. Once order was restored and the match started, Ethan Essex and Khaz Lee locked up momentarily before Essex proposed a dance-off. Fenix Fury would have to come in to break up the silly display by yanking Essex to the mat by his hair.

When Essex tagged Omega Phoenix into the match, it was Jay King who was tasked with taking the big man down. King charged at Omega Phoenix, who did not budge as King attempted a shoulder block. Phoenix hit a splash on King in the corner, then stepped on King’s stomach as he walked to the corner to tag Harry. Before he exited, Phoenix lifted Harry up to force the Hobbo’s armpits into the face of King.

With Harry finally alone in the ring, The Hype and Fury took control of the match. At the same time, they worked Harry’s arm and taunted Scum of the Ashes. Harry’s partners would come in to stop the attack, but this only allowed The Hype and Fury to triple team Harry even more with the referee’s back turned.

Finally, Harry avoided a Jay King elbow drop and Fenix Fury missed a top rope splash. Harry tagged Omega Phoenix who leveled all three of his opponents and cleared the ring. A confident Harry re-entered and put his armpits back in King’s face. This time, however, Fenix Fury rolled him up for the quick pin.

WINNERS: THE HYPE & FENIX FURY

MATCH #3
DEBBIE KANE vs. SIMONE VALENTINA
DIVAS OF DYNAMITE #1 CONTENDER’S MATCH

Debbie Kane and Simone lock up

It was announced before this match, that Gia Scott’s challenger for the Divas of Dynamite Women’s Championship, Annabelle Stackhouse would be unable to appear. As a result, this singles match was converted into a number one contender’s match, with the winner facing Scott later in the evening.

The new Super Krazee Pro Wrestling Women’s Champion, Debbie Kane dominated Simone Valentina from the outset of this match as she looked for a shot at a second strap. At one point, Kane added insult to injury as she ran Simone’s face along the ring ropes.

Simone tried to rally with two clotheslines, but neither had any effect on Kane. A Valentina bulldog slowed Kane momentarily. After a two count, Debbie rebounded. Valentina tried to hold on as Kane slammed her to the mat, connected with a running knee, and nailed Simone with a facebuster to secure her shot at the women’s championship.

As soon as the bell rang, however, the Divas of Dynamite Women’s Champion, Gia Scott rushed out from the locker room and attacked Kane so brutally that Kane would not be able to take advantage of the title opportunity she had just won. Scott laughed and taunted a limping Kane as she left the arena with assistance.

WINNER: DEBBIE KANE

MATCH #4
STEVEN FUERTE vs. LIVE ACTION LUKE

Live Action Luke celebrates his second victory of the evening.

Live Action Luke’s second appearance of the evening’s TV tapings would see him facing the Walking Work of Art, Steven Fuerte. The fans instantly hated Fuerte who told them to shut up, all the while while refusing to lock up with Luke. When Live Action connected with a back suplex, Fuerte left the ring completely.

The referee’s count reached seven before Fuerte decided to return. When he did, Luke countered a charging Fuerte by lifting him up onto the apron. This sent Fuerte back to the floor for another break. Luke went out onto the floor behind Fuerte, but it was Fuerte who took control from that point.

Steven landed several punches to Luke, threw him back in the ring, springboarded in, and connected with rapid-fire punches until the referee forced a break. Almost immediately, Fuerte stood on Luke’s throat as the referee forced yet another break. Fuerte whipped Luke into the corner and gyrated over his opponent after two hard shoulder blocks.

Fuerte looked to capitalize with a springboard forearm from the apron, but telegraphed the move. Live Action Luke moved out of the way just in time, then used an Irish Whip and running knee to set up the Zig Zig.

WINNER: LIVE ACTION LUKE

MATCH #5
ZAKAR SHAH vs. BOOM HAYDEN

Boom Hayden trapped in a Zakar Shah camel clutch

The Pinnacle of Persian Perfection Personified took to the microphone immediately after he found out that his scheduled opponent, RGP, was unable to appear. Zakar Shah said RGP was scared and ran away. Shah demanded to be awarded the victory anyway. He instructed the referee to count RGP out. Before that could happen, Boom Hayden appeared to challenge Shah instead.

Hayden started the match with a shotgun dropkick that sent Shah to the outside looking to recoup. Hayden broke a test of strength with a kick followed by a DDT that sent Shah outside for a second time. This time, Hayden followed Zakar outside and chased him around the ring.

Zakar managed to swing the momentum when Hayden missed a double axehandle off the second rope. Shah hit a European upper cut and huge boot to the face of Hayden, after which Shah taunted Hayden. Shah hooked Hayden in a rear chin lock, then sat on Hayden’s back and punched his head. Hayden tried to escape but found himself locked in a Camel Clutch.

Somehow, Hayden used his strength to power up onto his feet and break the Camel Clutch with an Olympic slam which left both men on the mat exhausted. As the combatants rose to their knees, they exchanged forearms. On their feet, they began slapping each other. Hayden whipped Shah into the corner for two hip attacks, but missed on the third.

Shah lifted Hayden up and over onto the apron, but Hayden was not deterred. Boom connected with a double axehandle off the middle rope and went for a spinning lariat. When the lariat missed, Shah attempted to pin Hayden while using the ropes for leverage. The referee caught Shah’s nefarious tactics and forced a break. This gave Boom Hayden time to regroup, stand up, and nail Shah with a lariat.

WINNER: BOOM HAYDEN

MATCH #6
JB ANDERSON vs. STEVEN FUERTE vs.
“THE MIASMA” ZAKK RAMSES vs. ARC DIVINE vs. CASH CARTER
FIVE STAR SPOTLIGHT MATCH

Five rising talents face-off to crown DCW’s Newest Star

The last match before the intermission would be a fatal five-way Five Star Spotlight match to crown DCW’s newest star. In addition to the returning J.B. Anderson and Steven Fuerte, this New Talent Initiative match would also include “The Miasma” Zakk Ramses, Arc Divine and Cash Carter.

Looking across the ring at 6’9″ Zakk Ramses, the other four competitors deemed it best to team up to take out “The Miasma” first. Ramses had other ideas. He threw each of his four attackers into a different corner. When each one charged from their corner, Ramses leveled them. Cash tried to get some offense in with two drop kicks that slowed Ramses. On the third attempt, Ramses dropped Cash with a clothesline, then got him to tap to the Boston Crab for the first elimination.

Arc Divine drop kicked Ramses out of the ring, but failed to appreciate J.B. Anderson and Steven Fuerte’s presence in the ring. Fuerte and Anderson double teamed Arc, but started arguing amongst themselves before finishing him off. Arc seized the moment and landed a superkick to Fuerte. At the same time, Ramses re-entered the ring and connected with a shotgun dropkick to eliminate Anderson.

Anderson refused to leave ringside after his elimination and took out his frustrations on Arc Divine. Steven Fuerte stood in the ring taunting Anderson as he was forced to leave, but did not notice Zakk Ramses standing directly behind him. Ramses whipped Fuerte into the corner, but missed a running boot. Fuerte repeatedly kicked Ramses’ legs and hit three running forearm shots to “The Miasma.” With a little too much confidence, Fuerte tried a running cross-body off the ropes. Ramses was waiting and caught Fuerte mid-air. A fall away slam dropped Fuerte. A choke slam finished him off.

With just two men remaining, Divine tried to sneak into the ring and attack Ramses from behind. When Ramses missed a clothesline, Arc nailed him with a DDT and a standing corkscrew moonsault. Still, Arc could not seal the victory. Divine took to the top rope, but Zakk caught him in a power bomb on the way down. A snap powerslam from “The Miasma” was all he needed to be crowned DCW’s newest star.

WINNER: ZAKK RAMSES

MATCH #7
CHAOS KNIGHT vs. DEZMON KING
DCW NO LIMITS CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

Dezmon King has Chaos Knight right where he wants him

“Relentless” Dezmon King, who I first saw at Virginia Championship Wrestling in November, entered this match against one half of The Spark, Chaos Knight, as the reigning DCW No Limits Champion.

The two competitors locked up, several times in the opening minutes of the match, without anyone gaining a clear advantage. When Chaos Knight attempted a running cross body, Dezmon King caught him in mid-air, then lifted him into suplex position and slammed him hard into the mat.

Chaos Knight later reversed an attempted whip in the corner into a running knee strike, then astounded the crowd by doing a forward flip modified facebuster to the champion. Knight kicked Dezmon out of the ring and looked to do a plancha out onto the Dezmon. Instead, Knight simply sprung over the ropes and landed on his feet on the ringside floor. The two men brawled intensely until Dezmon King hit Chaos with a moonsault off the ringside steps.

Later, Chaos Knight did a second flip over top of a charging Dezmon King, which left King sitting in the corner confused. In the center of the ring, the two men exchanged blows until Knight landed a Michinoku driver and put King’s neck on the ropes for an illegal choke. When the referee called for a break, Knight came off the opposite ropes but was surprised when King rose to his feet and leveled the challenger with a lariat.

Knight countered with a sling blade that left both men lying on the mat. Knight made his way to the apron for a moment. King followed and attempted a belly to back suplex to Knight from the apron, but was blocked. When Knight got back into the ring, King connected with a German suplex, another lariat, and an over-the-shoulder facebuster.

In the center of the ring, the combatants dared each other to connect with the most brutal forearms, they could muster. Dezmon King hit three in a row to knock down the challenger. Knight rose angrily with a flurry of forearms that knocked King down. Knight looked to the crowd and said, “This is your champ?” Knight hit his finisher, which looks like a cross between End of Days and a Blue Thunderbomb, to become the new No Limits Champion.

WINNER AND NEW CHAMPION: CHAOS KNIGHT

MATCH #8
DAVE REED vs. CORY KASTLE
DCW NO LIMITS CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

Dave Reed’s nagging ear injury caused by Cory Kastle

Because this was a TV taping, things were done in a different order than they will be shown when the matches air. I was not sure the reason for what happened next. Following Chaos Knight’s championship victory, his partner in The Spark, Cory Kastle, strode to the ring arrogantly and stood next to Knight. Knight took his newly won No Limits Championship from around his waist and placed it around Kastle’s.

Kastle’s challenger in this second DCW No Limits Championship match, was Dave Reed, who, by the time the match was over, would have steam rising off of his head. The battle began with some jabbering in the center of the ring and a lockup. The two men stayed locked up as the rolled around the ropes to all sides of the ring. Kastle and Reed ended in one corner, prompting the referee to call for a break. As Kastle backed off, he landed a cheap shot to the ear of Reed that would hamper the challenger for the rest of the match.

Kastle rammed Reed’s head into the turnbuckle multiple times, then floored Reed with a superkick to the injured ear. Kastle rubbed Reed’s face along the ropes until he dropped to his knees. Kastle kicked him in the back and head, then lifted him up for a double underhook suplex.

Reed turned the tide when Kastle telegraphed a kick, which allowed Reed to catch his foot mid-air. Reed whipped Kastle into the corner, but could not take advantage due to the pain in his ear. Kastle tried to fight back against his slowed challenger, but was met with a side slam. The crowd roared when Reed landed several consecutive jabs and punches, then hit a Dusty Rhodes Bionic Elbow to floor the champion.

Reed whipped Kastle into the corner, but accidentally splashed the referee when Kastle wisely moved out of the way at the last minute. Kastle connected with a side slam back breaker and pinned the challenger, but the referee was too weak to make the count at his normal pace. When Reed kicked out, Kastle berated the referee and shoved him down to the mat.

WINNER BY DISQUALIFICATION: DAVE REED

MATCH #9
MR. OOH LA LA vs. TIM SPRIGGS
BLINDFOLD MATCH

Mr. Ooh La La looks to the crowd for help finding Tim Spriggs

I had not seen a blindfold match since Wrestlemania VII. That night, Rick Martel and Jake “The Snake” Roberts put on sort of a disappointing match due to the constraints of the blind fold. The two competitors in this match, Tim Spriggs and Mr. Ooh La La, on the other hand did not disappoint,

As with any blindfold match, the first few minutes consisted of the two men trying to find each other using various methods. The clear fan favorite, Mr. Ooh La La pointed in all directions to ask where Spriggs was located. The fans assisted him in his search. The fans were not so charitable to Spriggs who struggled mightily.

The two men crossed in the center of the ring on two occasions. Each time, they got close, failed to connect and passed through to the other corner without incident. The two men tried again, and Mr. Ooh La La finally thought he had succeeded. It turned out, he found the referee instead of Spriggs. When Mr. Ooh La La mistakenly tried to lock up, the referee put him in a hammer lock and pushed him into the corner. The next time through, it was Spriggs who accidentally found the referee instead of his opponent.

Again, the two men made their way to the center and missed. This time, however, they startled each other when their backs touched. Finally, the competitors locked up. However, when the lockup ended in the corner, the referee called for a break. Once again, neither man had any idea where his opponent was.

When Mr. Ooh La La found Spriggs, he kicked Spriggs and fell to the mat out of fear, not knowing from which direction the retaliation would come. Ooh La La grabbed Spriggs leg from the mat, but Spriggs reversed into a leg lock from which there would be no escape. After his submission victory, Spriggs was confronted by Live Action Luke. Spriggs informed Live Action Luke that he would be the next victim. Stay tuned for more on this rivalry.

WINNER: TIM SPRIGGS

MATCH #10
GIA SCOTT vs. SIMONE VALENTINA
DIVAS OF DYNAMITE WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

Gia Scott on her way to a successful title defense

Due to the injuries suffered by Debbie Kane at the hands of Gia Scott earlier in the evening, it was announced that Kane would be unable to compete against Scott for the DCW Divas of Dynamite Women’s Championship. Kane’s replacement was the women she beat in the number one contender’s match, Simone Valentina.

Simone connected with hip toss early in the match, which sent the champion outside the ring to regroup. Scott returned with a vengeance. A series of shoulder tackles stunned the challenger long enough for Scott to land a suplex and a leg drop. Scott went for a second leg drop but missed.

Simone took advantage with running shoulder blocks, a spear in the corner and a bulldog. When Gia looked to hit a body slam, Simone rolled over into a pin attempt that almost ended the match. Frustrated, the champion destroyed Simone with a DDT, but arrogantly pulled her head off the mat at the count of two. Scott apparently had one more trick in her bag. An Eat Defeat from the champion was all she wrote for Simone.

WINNER: GIA SCOTT

MATCH #11
“DIRTY” SONNY DEEDS vs. ADONIS VALERIO
DCW HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

Dave Reed makes the save for Sonny Deeds

The crowd was all Team Sonny in this main event heavyweight match. The Champion “Dirty” Sonny Deeds had numerous supporters in the crowd on this night as he prepared to defend his DCW Heavyweight Championship against the hated Adonis Valerio. It was clear the fans despised Valerio. I would not realize just how much until later.

Valerio tried to get into the head of the champion early, avoiding a lockup and slapping the champion on the back of the head instead. Deeds would grab an armbar, and when the referee’s attention was diverted, Deeds yanked Valerio down to the mat by his hair. Valerio complained, but the referee said he had not seen it.

A shoulder tackle from Deeds would send Valerio to the outside of the ring for a break. As the fans jeered, Valerio exclaimed that “I will make any woman in the audience cry!” At that moment, Deeds joined Valerio on the floor and whipped the challenger into the guardrail. Valerio countered by whipping Sonny into the ring post and slamming his head into the apron.

It was all Valerio at that point. Inside the ring, he went to work on Deeds’ arm, then stepped on his neck in the corner. When the referee called for a break, Adonis whipped Deeds into the corner, hit a running kick, a snap mare, and a leg drop to Deed’s arm. The savvy champion used a poke to Valerio’s eye to counter and slow the challenger.

A Deeds dropkick sent Adonis back outside. Sonny followed him outside and threw Adonis back in. As Sonny crawled back in, Adonis attacked him. Sonny countered by locking Valerio in a Boston Crab. Adonis made his way to the ropes and forced a break, then rolled out onto the apron. Valerio snapped Sonny’s neck on the ropes as the fans chanted for Sonny and gyrated over the fallen champion.

As the match wound down, Sonny Deeds missed a splash in the corner, which allowed Valerio to connect with a drop kick. Valerio charged but missed. Deeds capitalized with a spine buster and looked to have the match in hand when Zakk Ramses came out from the dressing room wearing an Adonis Valerio shirt. The distraction was effective as Valerio rolled up Deeds to win the championship.

WINNER AND NEW CHAMPION: ADONIS VALERIO

The fans seemed ready to riot as Ramses and Valerio attacked the former champion after the bell. Trash poured into the ring from the fans at ringside in protest of Sonny’s title loss. Eventually, Dave Reed ran out to make the save and chased off the bad guys. Reed raised the hand of the former champion as Valerio and Ramses retreated to the locker room. However, the crowd gasped in surprise as Sonny Deeds nailed Reed with a spinebuster as a “thank you” for saving him.
